]]>Welcome 2021! Looking back over the course of the last very interesting year, many things have made me take a break from this website. This includes the design of it and all the things that I intended to do over the past year. I mean, being thrust into helping my kids through virtual school while all of my markets were cancelled (and continue to be) will do that to a person. I did learn to pivot. Making the best of the situation at hand as much as I could.
This year, I am making it a priority to get more products for sale listed and made. Developing more patterns. (I've got some big plans!!) And taking charge of my little growing business.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy New 2021. Let this be everyone's year to shine!
]]>Happy 2020! Hope this finds you all having a wonderful beginning to the new year. Here on the home front, we are busy getting a plan of action together for the year. Ideas for new products are in the works. Vendor shows throughout the region are being put on the calendar. And the creation of a new website. So, here we go! Please be patient with us as we are making adjustments and learning the ins and out of this new website. More product will be added soon. I can’t wait for you to see what I have in store!
Again cheers to to new year!

I was able get my blocks done for the Farmer's Wife 1930's Quilt Sampler very quickly, but getting pictures and writing this has been difficult. Between finding the time and chasing the daylight I finally got it done, I think just in time to link up for last week. So without further ado.
Block 16 : #2 Aimee
I loved this block. I love the colors, the fabric I've got going on. And the fact that it came out the right size and most of my point lined up. I did paper piece from the printout in the book. Which I believe is why this came together so easily for me.
Block 17 : #76 Nancy
I also paper pieced Nancy. I love the fabric in this, although, I am not sure it came out the best that I had thought it would in my head.
(excuse this absolutely terrible pic, I had put everything away before realizing that it didn't focus.)
Week 8 is almost ready to be posted, but that will have to wait until next week! Have a great weekend everyone!

I've been busy working on a few things around here lately. Trying to keep myself busy creating lovely things, all the while, trying to get this little business of mine to grow. It's harder than you'd think. Anyways. I had purchased a layer cake that 'I HAD TO HAVE' earlier this year. Didn't have a project in mind, just loved the colors. I thought I'd find a quilt to work on while things were slow, but never found a pattern that fit it or that I really likes. Until I happened across this one in my obsessive, compulsive quilt pattern searches. (You can check out my Pinterest board for how many quilts I have fallen in love with.)
This pattern is from Cloud 9 Fabrics. It is a free design by Michelle Engel Bencsko called Scattered Petals Quilt. This was a very easy project to follow. Although I did modify it - you know because I can never leave anything alone. I changed it up to use the layer cake I had available.
What I did:
Cut each 10" square from the print layer cake into 4 - 5" squares.
I used about 14 - 10" squares from another layer cake in plain grey for the accent squares. I cut each of the plain color into 25 - 2" squares.
Then I followed the rest of the well written directions for assembly.
One layer cake will have enough to yield two baby quilts with a few blocks left over. I used 80 blocks per quilt to give a 37" x 46" quilt. Perfect for a baby/crib quilt. You could easily turn this into a twin sized quilt by adding a few borders to make it the right size.
As for finishing, I machine quilted using a diagonal pattern.
I am offering this quilt in my AddyLou Creates etsy shop. The second one will be coming as soon as I find some time to get it sewn together.
I am just in love with the colors on this. And how quickly it all came together.

Three blocks this week! Woohoo! We are now up to 15 of the 99 blocks done. Still a long ways to go, but making great progress. This weeks blocks were so much fun. And I didn't have to un-pick anything so that made this week all the better.
Block 13 : #1 Addie
This block I took my time on. Fussy cut the center and all the accent point tips. Probably took longer than it needed to take, but I love how it turned out.
Block 114 : #57 Margaret
This block had some special meaning to me. My mother IS the 'Farmer's Wife.' And to top it off her name is Margaret. She is the most wonderful woman, mother, wife, friend ever! I happened to be over there the day that the block was released. We were supposed to be helping rack leaves at a Great Aunt & Uncle's house, but being the farmer's wife/mother & me the daughter, we were sent on an errand to help move grain trucks on our family farm. They were at the height of harvest, so off we went to help out. So as thank you for all that she does, I had her request the colors for this block. Her choice: Red & Black. I think I took care of that quite well. Throwing in the tractors, red gingham & black with silver dots (an ode to her beautiful silver hair...she's gonna hate me for that one) all makes this my mother's block.
Block 15 - #62 Milly
Milly is here. I liked this block. Although, I think my color combination may have looked better in my head. All in all, I like how it came out. I am really a fan of the simplicity of the triangles. These last two blocks came together so quickly and neatly.
On to week 7! I am looking forward to the new challenges and seeing all the other blocks & fabric combinations from everyone else. Month two of this Farmer's Wife 1930's Quilt along is starting off wonderfully!!!
Here are my first months worth of blocks:
Including this week's trio! This quilt is going to be totally random in colors, and I am loving how it is looking thus far.

Another two blocks in the books! I am not sure I how I was able to get these accomplished with all the sewing for Halloween I did and not to mention, all the stocking orders I had waiting to be sewn. I got week 5's Farmer's Wife 1930's Quilt Sampler blocks finished.
Block 11 : #41 Granny
This block and I were not getting along as well as I would have liked. I used the paper piecing method for this one, thinking that it would help me keep seams straighter and make it go together easier. Not sure how or why I came to that conclusion after reading everyone else's posts on the block. But soon I joined the ranks of Granny's wrath. I made this one twice. The first time, I wasn't pay attention and sewed the block all back wards. The second time, I got it all together, and realized that there was a large cut in one of the blocks. There was no hiding it. So, I unpicked the first and put it together. It came out OK. Not sure on the choice of colors/fabrics I used. But it was done, seams matched up the best that I could get them to, and I was sticking with it.
Block 12 : #45 Jenny
Jenny went together so much easier for me. I am pretty sure it took more time to pic out the colors than anything for this one. I am enjoying how the birds came to play in it and the colors. I used the templates from the book to make this block.
Week 6 here I come! Hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween last weekend. Ours was great albeit a little cold and rainy. Though it didn't seem to bother the kids any who wanted to trick-or-treat no matter what.

Wow! This week was exciting! Three more blocks done! Although not without some frustrations. That being said, I am happy with how all my blocks are coming together. Here are the blocks from week 4 since I am slightly behind posting, now that we are at the end of week 5. All of my Farmer's Wife 1930's Quilt Sampler blocks this week were cut using the templates from the book.
Block 8 : #78 Old Maid
Made from some Amy Butler and some other scraps. I love the colors on this one Although, for what ever reason, this one and I didn't get along well. The first time I made it, I gained a half-inch. Not sure what or how that happened. Second time was better, but still a little big. Oh, well. Quilting is not perfect, right??
Block 9 : #94 Susannah
Next came Susannah. I liked this one. It came together quickly and easily, after I figured out I had to cut each of the accent fabrics separately to have them all going the same direction. I used some fabrics that I have used in various baby blankets that I have made for my etsy shop.
Block 10 - #49 Katherine
And one more this week! I like how this one came out as well. It again took me a bit to realize how to cut the fabric with the templates so that all the pieces would be the correct direction. This is made with scrap fabrics from my stash.
Now on to write week 5's post. Have a wonderful Halloween all! Posts on the kids costumes to come! That is part of the reason I was behind....sewing costumes for five littles takes a lot of time!

Week 3 has come and gone. We are now into week 4, I haven't even started this week's Farmer's Wife 1930's Quilt Sampler blocks. Life has been crazy. Meetings for the house -which is coming along beautifully. School events, and sick kids (yuck!). Canning the last of the summer & fall's bounty. All this have prevented me from getting much sewing done. That is on the plan for the next few days here.
Last week's blocks and I had some arguments. There may have been some wine drank post production to ease the frustration.
First being 'Belle.' I have never done a y-seam...none the less had any idea what it was. Again, seeing the horror stories being posted scared me. I will say started thinking I could do it on my own. I got to a certain point and then got stuck. So I followed the tutorial that Ms Midge had posted, and voila! I had an almost perfect Betty block the first time around even though there was a few picking out of seams to get it right.
Block 6 : #13 Belle
Made from fabric I have used on aprons for my sisters. I love the print on this one. Did a little fussy cutting on the bigger flower sections to get them to match like that.
Not the prettiest of backs, but it was done. haha.
The second block for the week was 'Coral'. Apparently her and I were not meant to be friends. I have no idea what was going on. The first time I made it - she was beautiful - perfect points, all came together great. Until I measured, and then I realized I was 1/4" off. I think this may have been because the seams came out to about 3/8" instead of the scant 1/4". GRR. The second time wasn't any better. Still trying to figure it out, but somehow it was stretching everywhere and wouldn't become square. So third time was a semi-sorta charm. It was done. Came out to the 6 1/2" unfinished block it was supposed to be. Although, I am pretty sure my tips are going to disappear when the quilt is sewn together, but oh well. I was tired of trying.
Block 7 : #24 Coral
Used some Amy Butler I had laying around. And the green was from the bumper pads my mom made for my babies. I love the color combination on this one. Just wished I didn't have to make it so many times.
Now on to the Week 4 blocks that I am getting behind on!

You know you have a 'problem' when you anxiously await for weekly blocks to be announced. Still wasn't able to work on them though until the end of last week. Things have been crazy with building the house, getting orders done and working on the kid's Halloween costumes. But I got them finished, and am pretty happy about how they turned out for the most part.
As I was watching the Facebook group and all the lovely blocks appear, and then reading some of the issues people were having, I was getting really nervous about these blocks. I know how to do paper piecing, but I wasn't really ready to do that with these blocks. The set from the first week, I followed all the rotary cutting directions, and it was wonderful. This week, however, I tried the templates from the book since there was no rotary directions for these blocks. I printed them here and pasted them to cereal box cardboard to make them a little sturdier as I cut around them. They worked wonderfully!
Here are week 2's blocks! Block 4 : #14 Betty
This block is made from butterfly material I used to make sheets for my sister's baby, white dandelion fabric being used in my sister's wedding quilt and the yellow herringbone is from one of my latest projects, a firefighter turnout bag. (more on that coming soon in a different post) I like this block, still unsure on my fabric choice. But I do like it.
Block 5 : #20 Caroline
The fabrics used here are just random ones I had laying out from doing other small projects. I really like how this combination came together.
Two weeks in and I am feeling wonderful that I decided to join this group. So many lovely, and talented people! Now on to Week 3!

Happy October! It is getting cooler and the leaves are changing to their beautiful hues of yellow, orange, and red. I am thoroughly enjoying the cooler, sweatshirt weather temps. What is the start of autumn where you're at? With this start of fall, I like many, many others, fell under the Farmer's Wife 1930's Quilt Sampler spell. This is the first quilt-a-long I have ever done and honestly, one week in and I am loving it.
This quilt-a-long is being put on by Fat Quarter Shop & the lovely lady behind Gnome Angel with the help of some other amazing bloggers. We are tackling the Farmer's Wife 1930's Sampler Quilt by Laurie Aaron Hird. So far it is proving to be a fun adventure. I am enjoying the suspense of what new block will come, and seeing all the lovely blocks being made out of so many different fabrics. What's even more amazing is there is people doing this quilt all across the world - which is just awesome!!
With out further ado, here are my blocks for the week. I have decided to use fabrics from my stash. What I was going to use, didn't ship out in enough time to make it for the start. (I've already got it planned for something thing else...no worries. wink.wink) Each of these fabrics are from projects that I have made. Either for special gifts, for myself or fabrics I 'just can't live with out.' Each have their own story much like the stories from the book. I am also showing the back of the blocks. For me, sometimes it helps to see how other's iron out their seams for blocks, because some of these seams just get a little crazy.
This block is made from random pieces I have picked up in my fabric store remnant shopping adventures.
All of these fabrics were used to make items I used when I had my twin daughters (nursing pillow covers & diaper bag). These are some of my absolute favorites.
The pink floral fabrics was one I used to make one of my niece's crib sheets, and the green lattice fabric was used to make a quilt for my cousin for the birth of her daughter.
This quilt is going to be a fun, but a challenge for me. I am a planner, I like things to match/coordinate and flow well. So far I have been just pulling from my stash what semi-sort-of goes with the colors in the book or by how I feel that day. This will be a true scrappy quilt and very much out of my comfort zone but so far I am liking how things are coming together.
I am excited though - for the challenge, the year-long of sewing something new every week, but most of all the meeting of wonderful people through this event.
Cheers all - we are off to a fantastic start! Here's to another great week!

Happy Fall! It makes me sad that summer went so quickly, but to be honest, I love fall. I love sweatshirt weather, Purdue football games and watching the farmers harvest their crops. This also means that Halloween is just around the corner. I am not the biggest fan the 'scary' and 'disturbing' Halloween scenes. I detest scary movies and their movie pre-views on the TV at night. My brain is way to overactive and imaginative for all that. I do love the cutesy, and festive aspects of the holiday. Cute costumes, little witches and goblins trick-or-treating. Pumpkins, leaves candles - love all that too. I am excited to start decorating with all things fall. The kids are starting to put their requests in for their Halloween costumes. So far requests are for Frankenstein, a Princess, and a Jedi, and who knows what the twins would like. I think, I might be sewing for a while.
This brings to me to my latest project that I have been working on. Halloween Trick-or-Treat Bags. They are now listed in the AddyLou Etsy Shop. These are perfect for your little one trick-or-treating. They come in 13 different styles.
These are just a few of the cute Halloween Trick-or-Treat Bags I have for purchase in the Etsy Shop. Head on over to see what more I have to offer! Look under the HOLIDAY category to see all the Halloween Trick-or Treat Bags available.

]]>Hi All! It's been awhile. I am sorry about that. I took some much-needed time to focus on family, moving and creating. We are settled finally in our rental home, patiently awaiting our home to be built. I am working on getting my shop up and running on the site as well as on etsy. So pardon my mess while I try to figure all of this out. Everything should be in its place, so you should be able to find things you'd like. If you can't...send me a message and I will help you out. Thank you so much! Have a lovely start to September!
]]>Happy Friday! Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer so far. We have been incredibly busy. And I have been sewing non-stop, hence the lack of posts. I am here to share some of the things that I have been sewing, but had to keep secret for a while. Since all the baby showers are over with, I can share and not spoil the surprise. All of these items here are what I made for my cousin and her husband, who is a Navy helicopter pilot. Some were surprise gifts. Others were things that they ordered. I had a blast making everything. Though my husband and sisters might have otherwise to say while I was in the throes of making everything, and when things weren't just working as it was supposed to.
THE BEDDING
They have a nautical theme in their nursery, but also want to keep it so they were able to change the accent colors as their family grows. So we came up with using navy blue and white as their base.
Then we added in their current accent colors with the sheets. The navy and white polka dots are the crib skirt.
BLANKET & BIBS
For her shower my family gave a blanket and a set of bibs. And I couldn't resist making a few extra bibs in our Alma Mater.
My cousin's sister sent me a picture of something special she wanted created for sister. It was a diaper bag made out of a Navy flight suit. We didn't have a flight suit or patches, but we started brainstorming and this is what we came up with. I modified a pattern I found. Made the patches from some embroidery designs purchased and made by me. And this is what we came up with. I'm calling it the Military Diaper Bag.
There are usable zippered pockets on the front. Two large slip pockets on the back with a long adjustable crossover strap.
There are two magnetic snap closures to help keep everything inside.
The inside has five pockets total. Two decent slip pockets and three elastic pockets.
I am very happy with how this Military inspired diaper bag came together. And my cousin and her husband loved it!
It has received many 'likes' and 'I want-s' and 'Loves'.....so without further ado. It is now listed in the Etsy shop.
It can be fully customized. Even if you don't want the military diaper bag look, we can change it up to make it how you want it. Feel free to contact me about a custom listing to fit your needs.
Hope you have enjoyed! Like I said earlier, it's been crazy trying to get all this sewn with some other orders I will be posting about later. So please forgive me. I am hoping once we get back to our normal school schedule, I can be posting more often.
Thanks for reading!
Happy Monday! I hope everyone had an amazing week. We are gearing up for another busy and fun filled week here. Valentine's is right around the corner. With St. Patty’s Day right around the corner, I thought I would share a quick project to help you all get in the Irish mood. How about a nice little Shamrock Banner?! It’s quick & easy and no sewing to boot (well maybe a little). We all need a little project like this every once in a while.
Materials
Gather your materials
Cut out your flag template and trace the number of flags needed, I did seven, on to the heat n’ bond.
Iron heat n’ bond flags to wrong side of the cream fabric following the directions on the package.
Cut out top portion of flags, peel off paper backing and iron on to second piece of fabric. Cut out very close to the to the pieces that were just ironed on. You now have seven flags.
Trace seven of the outer shamrock and seven of the inner shamrock on to the heat n’ bond. I found it easier to cut out the group of inner and outer and iron on the corresponding fabric before cutting out the shamrocks.
Position on the shamrock in the middle of the flag. Make sure you like the placement before ironing down. Continue for the remaining flags.
Using a small hole punch, gently punch a hole on either top side of the flag.
Add your button embellishments. I used a thicker piece of crochet thread and tied a knot on the back to keep the button on. You could also just hot glue them if you would like.
Using a 2-4” pieces of ribbon, tie flag pieces together. On then flags cut a longer piece and make a loop for hanging.
Hang up, display and enjoy!
Hope you enjoy! Thanks for reading! And Happy St. Patty’s Day!

I did find some time to do a little something that I wanted to show off - Teacher gifts for Lucas's Pre-K teachers. I wanted to keep it on the simple side, so we decided on homemade hot chocolate. I found the recipe here. And it turned out pretty good. The kids like it. I think its good, but I am a poor judge since hot chocolate is not my favorite drink...I would rather a nice steamy cup of flavored coffee. YUM!
Here are some of the latest baby items I made for a custom order. I was so please how nice the blanket, paci clips and bib turned out.
My latest project (not including the nursery items I have been working on) I made today. I make lots of things, but not usually for myself. I have been on a mission to find a new purse, but haven't really found anything that I really like. Well I take that back...I did find a Coach purse that I fell in love with, but I couldn't bring myself to pay the dollar amount that was on the price tag. It was a pretty one though. Anyways, I thought that I would make one for myself. I made this pattern awhile back per request of a friend of mine, and have been meaning to make one of my own. Just haven't had much motivation until now. I figured why not...its my birthday this coming weekend. I deserve a pretty purse. (wink) So this is what I came up with. The gray chevron is extra material I had from making my bumper pad (I miss calculated and ordered way too much!) and the pink was just something I had laying around. I followed a pattern I found here and made a few minor modifications to suit my needs. (I used interfacing on the entire pattern to make it a little heavier and stiffer, made the straps about 5 inches longer, and I also made 2 sets of pockets for the inside.) I love how it turned out! Happy Birthday to me!!!!!
I have also been working diligently on getting more stock ready for the etsy shop. And revamping my logo along with my website, and ordering new labels. Its been a slow, fun process but more to come on that soon.
